How Long, O Lord?
How Long, O Lord?
Waiting Well in God's Silence
“How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?” cries the psalmist.
Perhaps you know that feeling too. Prayers that go unanswered. Silence where you hoped for comfort. A sense that God is distant, especially when life is already overwhelming, lonely or uncertain.
There are no neat answers for seasons when God seems hidden. But Scripture does give us a way to keep praying, even when we are weary. Looking at Jesus’ own prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, this short booklet offers hope for tired hearts, reminding us that God hears His children, even when His answer does not come in the way or timing we expected.
This resource includes:
- biblical examples of prolonged waiting
- reflection on Jesus’ unanswered prayer in Gethsemane
- teaching on praying according to God’s will
- the example of George Müller’s persistent prayer
- help with distinguishing biblical promises from personal expectations
- encouragement for seasons when God appears silent

A shared invitation
Our Daily Bread Ministries wants to stay alongside you in the stretches of faith that cannot be hurried. This resource is free because access to Scripture should not depend upon the season you are in or what you can afford. If you are able to give, your donation helps us continue providing that companionship to others who are waiting too.
