Just once more—and then I'll quit...
Addiction makes promises it cannot keep. Relief, comfort or control may come for a moment, but the need returns, often carrying greater shame and leaving less freedom than before.
Just Once More – and Then I’ll Quit . . . looks at addiction through a Christian lens, while recognising that addiction can take many forms and may also require medical treatment, counselling or specialist support. This booklet considers the desires that can sit beneath compulsive behaviour: the need to escape pain, feel in control or find satisfaction somewhere dependable. It then asks what happens when those needs are brought before God instead of repeatedly entrusted to something that is beginning to dominate us.
Jesus meets people whose lives are already disordered and offers forgiveness without requiring them to make themselves presentable first. From there, recovery is described in terms of surrender, openness, dependence upon the Holy Spirit and the willingness to seek help from other people. Freedom may involve a long struggle, but secrecy and shame need not remain in charge.
A shared invitation
Our Daily Bread Ministries wants to bring Scripture into struggles people find difficult to name aloud. We provide resources like this freely so that someone looking for help can begin without cost becoming another obstacle. If you are able to give, your donation helps us continue offering Bible resources to people seeking a way forwards.
