The Hope of Easter

The Doomsday Clock is designed to express how precarious humanity’s future has become. Climate change, warfare, technology and the possibility of catastrophe can make the fate of the world feel like an enormous responsibility resting on our shoulders.

The Hope of Easter takes that anxiety as its starting point and sets it against the Bible’s much larger account of creation, judgement and renewal. The Bible does not promise that humanity will eventually engineer its way out of mortality. Easter promises resurrection.

This booklet traces the brokenness of creation back to humanity’s rebellion against God, then turns to the crown of thorns and the cross, where Jesus bears sin and judgement Himself. His resurrection opens a future beyond decay: the biblical promise of a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells.

Our Daily Bread Ministries produces resources like this because we want to accompany people into the larger questions as well as the everyday ones. We make them freely available, and readers who donate enable us to keep doing so. Your support helps another person encounter Scripture and consider the hope we have in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
