Welcoming the stranger
Welcoming the stranger
Scripture repeatedly draws God’s people towards those who remain outside our familiar circles: the foreigner, the refugee, the lonely person, the overlooked neighbour and the newcomer we have never quite got round to speaking to.
Welcoming the Stranger examines that calling through the wider story of the Bible. It considers God’s commands to Israel concerning foreigners, the experiences of people such as Abraham and Ruth, Jesus’ own life as a stranger and refugee, and the striking New Testament description of Christians themselves as people whose citizenship is ultimately in heaven. From that foundation comes a practical question: how should belonging to God alter the way we receive those who might otherwise remain strangers to us?
This free study is particularly useful for individuals, churches and small groups wanting to think biblically about hospitality, community and the responsibility to offer practical care.
A shared invitation
Our Daily Bread Ministries produces resources like this to help Christians bring Scripture to bear on the questions they encounter in their communities. They are available without charge. If you would like to help sustain that work, your donation enables us to continue providing accessible Bible teaching and putting it into the hands of people and churches who can use it.
