What is the danger of comparing?

What is the danger of comparing?

Comparison alters the way we see almost everything. Someone else’s career gathers momentum, their relationships appear easier, their life looks more secure, and suddenly what God has given us seems inadequate.

What Is the Danger of Comparing? works through Psalm 73, where Asaph finds himself in precisely that place. He watches people who seem to prosper without giving God much thought, while his own obedience appears to have brought hardship. Envy begins to distort his view of other people, his circumstances and eventually God Himself. His perspective changes when he brings the whole tangle into God’s presence and remembers what is permanent: “God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.”

This resource includes:

  • an accessible study of Psalm 73
  • insight into the spiritual effects of envy and comparison
  • help with recovering perspective when somebody else’s life looks preferable to your own
  • a biblical account of identity, contentment and what it means to value nearness to God
  • encouragement to look increasingly to Christ as the One whose life should shape ours

Download your free copy and spend some time with a psalm that understands how persuasive comparison can become.
