Finding Hope in the Psalms

Finding Hope in the Psalms

The Psalms give us a vocabulary for faith in all seasons. Their writers protest, confess, grieve, wait, remember, ask for rescue and sometimes tell God exactly how bleak things look.

Finding Hope in the Psalms follows that breadth of experience through a selection of Our Daily Bread readings. Rather than treating difficult emotions as interruptions to faith, it shows how the psalmists brought them into their relationship with God. Their confidence grows from knowing who He is: refuge, Shepherd, shield, hiding-place and the God who remains near to those who call on Him.

You will explore several familiar psalms from fresh angles. Psalm 9 considers the security found in God’s name and character; Psalm 19 turns attention towards His creation; Psalm 23 follows the Shepherd through the darkest valley; Psalm 28 speaks of God as strength and shield; and Psalm 30 is all about the worship that exists alongside tears. The booklet then draws these images towards Jesus, the Good Shepherd who seeks, carries and lays down His life for His sheep.

This resource includes:

  • selected Psalms reproduced for unhurried reading
  • Our Daily Bread reflections rooted in each passage
  • questions for personal reflection
  • prayers for refuge, trust and renewed hope
  • practical suggestions for meeting with God through Scripture and creation
