Prayers for Ordinary Moments

Prayers for Ordinary Moments uses the routines that already fill our lives as prompts to turn our attention towards God.

There are prayers here for first thing in the morning, making coffee, going to work, washing up, exercising, travelling, reading, watching a film and even doing nothing. Each one is paired with Scripture, drawing an everyday activity into the larger life of faith and helping prayer become less detached from the hours in which most of life is lived.

Some prayers are playful, others more reflective, but the thread running through them is the invitation of 1 Thessalonians to “pray continually”: to become more attentive to God while the washing machine runs, the kettle boils or another ordinary day gets under way.

This resource includes:

• prayers rooted in familiar daily activities
• a Bible verse alongside every prayer
• words for work, rest, home, travel and leisure
• prompts for recognising God’s presence beyond a formal devotional time
